Well boys we are in the midst of a heater…and what’s the first rule about a heater…never leave the table when  you are on a heater…however, you should learn to play smart. So I’m going to shrink my risk and play more parlays this weekend in an attempt to hit a few big wins instead of trying to fight the .550 profit margin level… So with all that being said, take a read on my weekend predictions and steam (more…)

Too early for 2011 NFL Draft predictions you say? ABSOLUTELY NOT SAYS WE.

1. Bills – QB – Andrew Luck – Stanford – The bottom line is that the Bills have major QB issues and that is the most important position on a football field.  If you have a hole here, a top 5 pick, and a prospect who fits this position in the Draft, you take your shot on the QB of the future for your team.  The Bills will with the top pick and I have Luck as the highest rated QB on my board at this point. 1. Alabama – The Crimson Tide certainly deserve to sit at #1 after their battle with Arkansas.  It didn’t look good for about 3/4 of that game, but Nick Saban proved why he is one of the best Coaches in College Football.  Watching that game, I just had a feeling that Arkansas was going to struggle to hold that lead, even into the 4th quarter.  That’s the the kind of team that Alabama is this season.  The next five weeks are going to put Alabama into some very challenging games, so it will be a struggle to run the upcoming gauntlet without a scrape.

2. Ohio State – A 50+ point win is a 50+ point win.  It was a MAC team, too.  Not a I-AA team.  OSU has some minor issues to clear up, like a few TD’s I would’ve preferred to not see, and a couple issues with special teams that continue to pop up, but ultimately, they remain the clear cut #2 team in this country.  The next two weeks shouldn’t pose too much trouble for OSU as they take on Illinois and Indiana before hitting the real meat of the Big Ten slate, starting with top 10 Wisconsin on the road at night on National television.

3. Florida – Really?  The Gators?  Yeah, really.  Florida has hung around for long enough and nobody really jumped in front of them to take that top spot, in my opinion.  The Gators finally showed up offensively this past week and their impressive win was enough to jump a Boise State that just squeaked by.  Florida’s tests are about to begin with Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and South Carolina all coming up over the next 6 weeks.  I still feel like this is a 2-3 loss team at best, so don’t expect Florida to hold this position.

4. Boise State – Boise State had a nice win over Oregon State, which is true.  It wasn’t very impressive, as far as wins go.  Oregon State now has 2 losses, dropped out of our poll this week, and really gives off the feeling of a team that will probably lose just about every game to a ranked team on their schedule.  They are a two man crew with the Rodgers brothers as far as true game breakers go.  Not good for Boise, who tried to schedule tougher teams this, only to have those teams let them down by being horrible.  Not Boise’s fault, but expect to see Boise fall despite winning week after week by a spot or two as those around them take on and beat tougher levels of competition.  Boise is will probably run the table, but likely finish outside of the top 5 in our final poll.

5. TCU – While TCU didn’t fall this week, it is only because nobody behind them looked good enough to jump them.  This would’ve been a good week for that to happen since TCU made SMU looked like a team from a bygone era.  You have to win the close ones on your schedule.  Even the close ones you weren’t expecting, but SMU?  We shouldn’t be scraping by a team like SMU and holding a top 5 ranking, but a win is a win and TCU barely hangs on thanks to a few week wins or losses from teams behind them.

OK… So let me point this out…Sometimes I do some stupid stuff when I win and I’m dangerously close to pushing the envelope here… But I need one more solid weekend and then all hell could break loose.

1. Alabama – ‘Bama retains the top spot this week.  Their blow out of Duke was pretty much expected, but there were no more impressive wins below them that would warrant an attempt at taking the top spot from them.  ‘Bama’s schedule is loaded with tough competition coming and coming soon, so they are still the most likely team in the top three to slip up this season.

2. Ohio State – Trailing ‘Bama, OSU delivered an equally impressive crushing of Ohio.  Again, OSU’s struggles on special teams are what is separating them from the top spot, but their schedule is a bit more lenient and makes them a slight favorite over ‘Bama to make it to the title game now that Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan all look very beatable.

3. Boise State – Boise continues to blow out chumps and unfortunately for them, chump blow outs will not sustain them for the rest of the season.  They have a tough matchup against an Oregon State team that I consider a fringe top 25 opponent and it should be there final tough test of the 2011 season until the BCS Bowl game.  Unfortunately, an undefeated Boise has zero chance at unseating a one loss major Conference opponent for a shot at the Title.

4. Florida – The Gators continue to look shaky, but continue to win.  As long as they do, TCU won’t be able to bump them from the #4 spot.  The Volunteers look better than expected, but seem to utterly collapse down the homestretch of big games and that was clearly the case this season.  Don’t get too excited Gator fans.  That Tennessee team was a 7-5 caliber group.

5. TCU – TCU does move up a spot thanks to their blowout win over Baylor combined with another piss poor showing from an inconsistent Oklahoma team.  TCU has some tougher games on the schedule, but nothing crazy, so don’t expect them to get a shot at the Title this year either.  But winning out will put them in the BWCS. The time has come… It’s time for Todd McShay to put the humble pie in the oven and remind people of his pre-draft rankings… You know him as the guy who had Tim Tebow ranked higher on his draft board than Jimmy Clausen.  (more…)

Friday Night:
California – 3 @ Nevada… the only real concern is if the Cal coaching staff hit the casino cocktail circuit a little too long and hard the night before… Cal has one of the best QBs in the country and that should mean a high scoring performance for the Golden Bears.
Cal -3  @ 250
For some reason I ignored the over and decided to get cute here. Not a deal breaker in the end as a Friday loss can be fixed all weekend… -275

1. Alabama – Alabama’s big win over Penn State is enough to keep them firmly in place as the #1 team in the nation.
2. Ohio State – The score of the Miami game was not indicative on the dominance OSU displayed on Offense and Defense.
3. Boise State – This was a great week for someone to jump Boise on a bye, but Florida wasn’t impressive, so Boise remains 3rd.
4. Florida – Another game against a subpar opponent where Florida struggled for at least a half of play.
5. Oklahoma – With a blowout of Florida State, the Sooners vault into the top 5, poised to replace Florida and/or Boise. (more…)
