Well, the hot stove league is off to the slowest start in my lifetime… So what gives… Have Major League owners gotten the hint that nobody outside of the East Coast gives a damn about baseball…

As a sidenote and the summary of our blogs World Series Coverage… Since when were Dallas and San Francisco considered bad markets to have in a Championship series. New York and Boston weren’t in the series…so does that mean the networks should have just folded shop and given the trophy to the team with the most former yankees or red sox ?? Maybe that will be up for consideration next year.

Anyhow, in this fantasy sports obsessed culture, I’m actually more excited to see what happens in the free agency market and how the White Sox, Cubs, Reds and other teams will improve themselves in the coming weeks/months and prepare to make a run next year.

Here’s a look at the top 40 or so free agents and where I think they best fit… It may not be where they end up… but it would make the most sense for some of these teams to sack up and get their man. (more…)

It has become painfully obvious that the White Sox are terminally ill and all that is left is the decision to take them off the respirator.  Reasons for their demise:

1. The most importatn factor here is that Minnesota is simply better.  We will not go 30-10 the rest of the way and Minnesota now has that 4 1/2 game lead.

2.  Jake Peavy’s injury which may be career ending.  Remember that Clayton Richards was given away in this trade and he will mature into a good # 3 or #4  starter.  Regardless is it likely that whatever we gave up was too much for the 10 wins Peavy gave us over the last 2 years.  You cannot win with 3 starters, all of whom are really number 2 or 3 starters on a quality team.  Yes, their starting pitching is better than Minnesota’s but Minnesota’s every day lineup is more consistent and has 2 superstars in Morneau and Mauer.  We can’t beat them without Morneau, how do you think we’ll do when he is available again?

Ozzie Guillen is getting flack for bashing Major League Baseball’s failure to provide a translator in minor league camps for Latino players…whereas Japanese/Korean players are assigned a personal translator from Major League Baseball…not the team they play for.

Well, the facts are the facts, and Ozzie is simply pointing them out. If you don’t like Ozzie or don’t agree with his methods of getting his mind free of what is bothering him, that is one thing. However, in this case, Ozzie is dead on. We are a nation at war with itself in terms of immigration enforcement and desire for reform…Now MLB is clearly exposed as taking advantage of the cheap labor and really falling short in terms of equality on how players are handled…

So why would MLB do this..>Simple. Have you ever been to Mexico / Dominican Republic or any other Latin country…They don’t have much money to spend on satellite television programming, they don’t lob heaps of money at franchises in sponsorship and don’t send traveling members of their media to follow a team the same way the Japanese media has assigned members to follow Hideki Matsui and Ichiro Suzuki… So money makes a difference in how people are treated and catered to…not exactly news in the world, but really you can’t blame Ozzie for calling it out. It is, as they say, what it is…
